USAGI YOJIMBO ROLE-PLAYING GAME 2nd Edition
by MANOS K.
Publisher: Sanguine Productions
Date Added: 11/21/2020 13:50:24
USAGI YOJIMBO ROLE-PLAYING GAME 2nd Edition Blurred use of the Apocalypse system. Too many different effects based on the roll and no clear MC intervention windows. Also, a lot of paragraphs in the book do not have an ending and they stop middle sentence... Not new player friendly, you will struggle a lot learning how this game works (and I have read and played as a GM a lot of different RPGs). On the plus: I discovered the Magnificent Pbta system!!! The Pbta system is difficult to understand at first because is very innovative but very rewarding and full of action!...

The Art of Pepper&Carrot Too many artists let their sketches and concept ideas lie fallow in their notebooks once the finished product is out in the world (assuming it gets to that point). This is unfortunate, as the twists, turns, and dead ends of a project can say a lot about the character thereof. So it is with *The Art of Pepper&Carrot*, as we see through character design what archetypes and personalities characters were curated to have or simply evolved into. So too with locations and magical creatures. All this is presented through well-picked font and graphic choices. I only wish there was yet more (and if you [also feel](https://matrix.to/#/!RNLIIDilczGsGhFHDV:matrix.org/$16-

The Burning of Innsmouth - Issue 1 A sequel of sorts to Shadow out of Innsmouth, and a good one at that. The art style is fitting to the setting, the pacing is well suited to the story, and the wait till the next issue is released is torturous. I'm eagerly awaiting Issue 2

JBD: The Devil's Due #1

JBD: The Devil's Due #1 Abut half of this book (around 14 pages) is actual story. Rest consists of ads, credits pages, dividers, multiple title pages and so on. I felt that the story did not flow smoothly. It was hard to follow, jumped around without rhyme or reason. There was little progression from cause to effect. Text and images did not always worked together, felt like those were concentrated more on setting a mood, than telling a story. I felt the story didn't take advantage of everything the comicbook have to offer as a visual medium. Furthermore I feel like hermetic choice of subject matter will not appeal to broader audience not intimately familiar with the broader cultural background. The black and white heavy ink-style art was decent enough. So that's a plus. Personally - not my cup of tea....

Cancertown: An Inconvenient Tooth Trade

Cancertown: An Inconvenient Tooth Trade For a large part of this book, I had very little idea what was going on. That's not a criticism, it's all part of what makes this a creepy masterpiece. It's really well written - you hear the main character's London accent clearly in your head, not because of any awkward-looking attempt to write it phonectically; but just because the phrasing feels so authentic and natural. The art perfectly complements the surreal and eerie plot; somehow looking cartoonish and yet grimly bleak at the same time. One of the most enjoyable comics I've read in a while....

USAGI YOJIMBO ROLE-PLAYING GAME 2nd Edition
by Andrew B.
Publisher: Sanguine Productions
Date Added: 09/29/2020 11:18:22
USAGI YOJIMBO ROLE-PLAYING GAME 2nd Edition This is a fairly simplistic mechanical system, but a very rich world. If you love the Usagi books, this one is for you. If you love feudal Japanese history, culture, etc. This is for you. The book provides rules for playing any of the animal "races" as well as a number of different occupations. It even provides a fairly good list of characters for gamemasters to tie into the game. But where it really shines is how it gives a summary of Japanese history, politics, etc. through the Tokugawa Shogunate, as well as a breakdown on the different provinces of the nation. If you want to run a Usagi game, this is a fun stand-alone book. If you are interested in running a historical campaign, this book provides enough maps and details to use as a sourcebook for any mechanical system. For those unfamiliar with the books, the default era of Usagi Yojimbo is the first five years of the Tokugawa Shogunate (1600-1605)....

Girl Genius Volume One (B&W Edition) If you like steampunk or humor, look no further. This series is filled with great characters and explores an alternate world-Europe where a young girl finds that all she knew about herself is wrong. While I can appreciate the color versions, the series originated as B&W, and for the price is a great introduction for those unfamiliar with the series. Be warned: it is addictive, and you may be forced to laugh aloud.

Vampire: The Masquerade, Winter's Teeth #1

Vampire: The Masquerade, Winter's Teeth #1 If you're a longtime fan of both Vampire the Masquerade and comic books, this is a must buy. Finally you can read a high quality comic book set in the VtM universe. -The tone is good, there is no shunning of the darker elements but also no puerile indulging on them. The personal drama is there, but in a measured way which is good in my book. -There is not much meat of the story in this first issue, due the decompression techniques of modern comic books. So it's hard to give an opinion on the main plot. -The two main protagonists aren't that great or original, but they work and they're cool enough and they avoid the usual tropes and stereotypes overused for female leads. So overall it's a good point for me. -There are a few very good strong sequences that can inspire your games if that's what you're looking for. Really liked them. Four stars instead of five because: -From this starting point it looks like the scope of the story will be rather limited....

Ninja High School Textbook Volume 2
by Eddy W.
Publisher: Battlefield Press

Ninja High School Textbook Volume 2 The story turns a little more serious and interconnected here, but there are still some funny bits (including some thinly-veiled swipes at superhero comics). The art jars at one point -- I think a comic produced later was jammed into the ongoing storyline -- but still a good collection.
